Birth Story Of Zackery Isaiah

I found myself forty one weeks & 1 day pregnant on Friday July the 29th. I had been anxious for weeks knowing that the baby could come at any minute. I almost convinced myself to buy some Depends just in case my water broke while out some where in public. Canyon told me he had been watching me to see if my water broke and Trenten noted that my belly was getting big and I was ready to bust. I was preparing myself to have a 10 month baby. This baby was going to take it’s dear sweet time. I was desperately trying to find contentment.
Friday afternoon rolled around and still no signs of labor. Derek and I decided to go pick up some peaches and Roma tomatoes while they were on sale. We ended up taking the kids to get a burger and let them play before heading to pick up the produce. I felt like this might me the last time we had to do something with the kids without a newborn in tow. After getting home Derek and I canned a full canner of Roma tomatoes and sat down to watch a movie he picked out from Red box. The movie turned out to be stupid so he shut it off and we headed for bed. We chatted & joked that we could wake up with a new one in the morning. Little did we know.

It is funny to me how you can forget what labor feels like. I spent the last few weeks wondering how I would know if I was in labor. I didn’t remember what contractions felt like at all from the birth of Asher. However, when 2:30am rolled around and ‘that’ pain hit me I knew we were going to have a baby soon. I didn’t have to guess if I was in labor. The contractions were convincing enough! I got up to go potty and I laid back down and waited for another contraction. I had two before I got out of bed. I timed a few and woke Derek up after they kept coming about every 3-4 minutes. We were excited to FINALLY be in labor. Derek started cleaning the mess from canning tomatoes and I was busy breathing and lightly moaning through contractions.

We called our midwife around 3:15am to let her know labor started. She arrived sometime later as I was getting out of the bath. She asked the normal questions and let me be. She got her gear ready, fixed her some coffee, and found a comfy place on the floor of our bedroom to sit. By this time my moaning was getting louder and the contractions were stronger. I found the most comfort leaning over pillows on the edge of the bed between contractions. During contractions I was most comforted by holding Derek’s hand and leaning into his chest.

Not sure what time my ‘crazy transition talk’ started but it was classic. “I can’t do this”, “ I don’t think I can do this”, ETC. My pitch started to get high so our midwife reminded me to lower my tone. Then it was like everything happened so fast. My water broke and I asked the midwife if I could do this standing up. She assured me that this was my birth and baby and we would do it anyway I wanted. She moved on one side and Derek was on the other.

I remember thinking that I was never going to do this again! I started pushing (midwife said I pushed about 20 min) and around 6:43am our little Zackery was here. He was caught by his Daddy. He cried only for a second and then he was handed to me and we adjusted ourselves on the bed to wait for the placenta. We called the nana’s, cut the cord, and cleaned us up. After I got situated Derek went and got the boys up to meet there new brother.

Our lives are forever changed. We finally were able to have a homebirth. Derek was finally able to catch one of children. We were able to do things our way.

Life with Zackery is great. We have adjusted surprisingly well. And all that ‘never doing this again’ talk has faded away. Honestly, I would do it over. 1000 times!
