100 ways WE save money #3

Weeks worth of clothes waiting to be folded and put away.
Items in this pile are 90% thrift finds.

We rarely buy new clothes. We buy second hand through local thrift stores and yard sales. Normally, we visit thrift stores 3-4 times a year. We are fortunate to have quite a few in a reasonable drives time. The few things we have a hard time finding are jeans and shoes. We generally purchase new items of clothing for gifts. Our local Salvation Army has a $5 bag sale a few times a year. The other stores always have 30%, 50%, &70% off sales. I recently bought a very flattering dress BRAND SPANKING NEW for $5!  In addition to buying used, we have 'play/work' clothes and 'good' clothes. No sense in ruining a good pair of jeans with grime. We also encourage our boys to wear their clothes more than once. Why get mud on five pair of jeans? We do have exceptions of course.

Excellent. I shop for almost all our clothes in Thrift Stores too.

Exceptions: underwear, bras, socks

It is important to have play, work and nice clothes. I love this series and look forward to more tips!!

Jennifer, those are our exceptions as well. We get lucky and find decent sales during the school tax holiday weekend on underwear. I have looked into buying socks in bulk for our crew. We love the summer time. Going barefeet is the best!
